It exists in the world, the general assumption that technological developments are the result of careful research, based on scientific theories. That is, the scientist knows exactly where he / she wants to and busily set to work to get there. Newton's mistake has established this belief (with significant assistance from the organized religions, especially the "Christian" church) in the minds of people inside the First World.
